Been here a week or two now, mostly lurking, and now making an introduction as I'm likely to be here to pester you with questions for a while ;)

A bit more savvy than your average computer user, but certainly no super-geek. I love computers and technology, but really don't (and don't particularly care to) understand the concepts and theory behind the functionality and practical uses.

Both my parents are/were computer professionals. My dad started out fixing computers, then killing viruses, then running networks and tech support. My mom was a programmer with Oracle on government contracts ('til she quit to have more kids). I've been around computers for the vast majority of my life and thus have learned a fair bit.

First computer was a laptop, running Windows 3.x. I broke it playing around in the BIOS. Second computer was an Aptiva, don't know specs. Ended up putting a 64mb Riva/TNT card in for some games, think Morrowind might've been out at that point, and then my grandparents bought me the laptop I custom-ordered for a Christmas gift. Still have it, though it overheats like nothing (specs below). 4 years and still running, after 3 years I financed a refurbished laptop through Dell. Inspiron 1501, my main computer still (only one connected to the internet here at home, and I like my mobility), but that's started to give me issues, and being that I didn't get the warranty, I don't wanna screw with it. So, I recently built myself a new desktop (and still have work to do with it).

Looking forward to being around and trying not to be too much of a nuisance, and hopefully reach a point where I might have something to contribute at some point.

Current rigs:

HP zd7000 (laptop)
-------------
-Windows XP Pro SP2
-17" widescreen lcd
-3.06gHz Intel Pentium 4 processor (with hyperthreading)
-1gb ram
-128mb nVidia GeForce FX Go5600
-40gb hdd
-dvd-rom cd-burner

Dell Inspiron 1501 (laptop)
-------------
-Windows XP Media Center 2005
-15" widescreen lcd
-AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile 1.79gHz
-2gb ram
-256mb ATI Radeon Xpress (HyperMemory junk that's stealing 256mb of my ram for video memory and still producing horrid framerate in WoW at minimal settings)
-80gb hdd
-DVD burner (drive doesn't work, system mistakes it for a battery, even after pulling it out and reseating it)

Custom Work-in-Progress
-------------
-Windows Media Center 2005
-Ubuntu 7.10
-15" Sony Vaio Monitor w/ built-in speakers (didn't buy a monitor, grandma had this sitting around in her basement... it works (for now))
-Antec Nine Hundred gaming case
-Abit AN52 mobo [have read this isn't a good board for overclocking. Not a good board for SLI, at the very least]
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6gHz processor (65w)
-Apevia 500W ATX PSU [have heard of issues with Apevia, looking at other options as I upgrade other components as the fan is pretty loud]
-Crucial Ballistix (2x1gb) DDR2 800 [planning on adding one more stick. CPU HSF blocks first RAM slot]
-PNY GeForce 8500GT 512mb GDDR2
-ZEROtherm BTF90 92mm CPU Cooler
-160gb hdd
-External Samsung Lightscribe DVD Burner

I'm not an overclocker, though I'm looking into the possibility.

I enjoy roleplaying games. Why? I like a good story. But I like my eye candy too. I want another game like FF7 or FF9, FF10 wasn't *too* bad either. Even some of the older FF games, despite the lower graphics. Hell, I used to love Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 on the NES. Looking primarily for singeplayer stuff at the moment because of the lack of an internet connection on the desktop. However, I play WoW and SWG and am toying with Flyff as it's free and looks... intriguing....

Also playing with Oblivion now I finally have a system that can handle it. Preordered the collector's edition, Bethesda took my old laptop's vid card off the supported list the day of release >.<

Used to be a big gamer, now I more just mess around on teh intawebs and wish I had money to spend on all the crap I want xD

As for my name?
There are some who call me..... Tim
