PSUs, How Much Is Too Much?
Ive been looking around places like new egg and tiger direct, and i have seen massive psus up to 1300 watts? I see this and ask, When are you going to need this much power? i think this a little bit more than "future proofing" i think its just a waste. I have never built a rig that used more than 650 wats or so. does any one have a rig that could possibly use this much?

yeah unless you were running like 8 hard drives, and at least 4 cpus, your weren't using close to 650W. It all depends on the Amps you need and the quality of the PSU. A PSU can be rated at 1300W but is that peak or is that sustained? In other words, can it give out that amount of power for a long time or is that a one time deal. You want future proof, go with the TX750 by Corsair. One of the best built PSUs out there, and it will last you for a while.

Some people have rigs that use that much, but the lights dim when they power them up.
For the average user though, they would never need anything more than a Corsair HX520w.

The Corsair TX75- is built by Chanel Well, it's the same PSU as the Thermaltake and Xclio Great Powers.............
Fairly good PSU's, but not as good as the original Corsairs. I've used 2 Chanel Wells in the past and one died a quick and ugly death..................

CWT made yes, but in no stretch of the imagination would I lump it in with those low grade PSUs. It is still in the top 5 of psus in my book. Jonnyguru seems to agree as well

Well, seeing as Jonny doen't review anymore, madmat and others do, but that really doesn't matter I guess, but from every pic of the internals I;ve seen of the Corsair unit completely matches the internals of the Xclio I have here at the house, I'd say that the quality is about the same, same components as well. With them made by the same OEM means the same workmanship quality as well.

not necessarily, that's like saying a Camry has the same quality build as a Corolla because there made by the same company.

If you say so, then all's good.............

Ultimately, too much is when you cant afford it. It all comes down to what you have in your case.
