Fan controller/Display

Post by FZ1 »

Anyone using a fan controller with a fan speed display that they really like? I've been looking for one but a lot of them seem like crap. I don't care about showing temps, voltage or anything else (but if it does that, fine). I have a rheo controller now but I can't see the fan speed which I'd like to have.

problem with those, is that they can't hand many watt's per channel. Its one or the other. Depends on how many fans you want to control

I will only have about 3 120MM fans.

Note for ya FZ1 ...

I have a Stacker 830 like yourself.
Installed the 4 fans in the side and used this controller ... http://biz.tigerdirect.com/applications ... &CatId=501
I added wire length to all the fans so that I could route them to the bottom rear of the door, up and around the frame to the front. (Just hiding wires.)

As it turns out, with the fan controls all set to minimum, at boot time, the fans won't start.
I reckon there's enough voltage drop in that length of wire to prevent it.
I have to manually turn the speed, (voltage) up for the fans to start.
I can then turn them back down to minimum and they'll continue to run until next boot.
This didn't happen before I added the wire to each fan.

It's worth mentioning too that I used Thermaltake 120MM fans that each have 3 led's in them.
I'm sure the led's leech from the supplied voltage at least a bit.
Meaning that non-lit fans might not have this problem.

Might not be the case for you, but if it were, with a pushbutton controller, it could be a major PIA.

I went with the one I linked to above. Works great. I am not using the 4 fans on the side because the case door doesn't fit with the radiator installed inside the case. :( Don't really need them though.
