P5K NB heatpipe question

Post by XstollieX »

I just picked up an asus p5k mobo. The nb has a passive heatsink with a heatpipe running to another heatsink on the back of the board. I am planning on running this system under water cooling. Should i just cut the heatpipe to eliminate the nb sink and leave the rear heatsink or should i remove both and replace the rear hs with something else? I appreciate all your help
Thanks,
Stollie

well i can answer this. look at this thread http://forums.legitreviews.com/about12903-20.html
you probably wont have the issues i had with the heatsinks sticking as that board you have uses regular sized mosfets and mine uses tiny tiny digital pwm's. as for cutting the heatpipes, you can do it, but you wont be able to rma the board.

Well i got the board up and running and it was reporting temps of 119 degrees celcius! :( So i went to tiger direct by and replaced it with a striker 2 formula. I figure ill bring that board back and get some pc 8500 for the striker rig. I'm gonna leave the heatpipes alone on this board, I may pick up some heatsinks for everything else and run the nb underwater but ill see what kind of results i get with it first.
