Athlon(tm) X2 Processors
- New Desktop Processors Can Cut Power Consumption, Deliver High
Performance for Pennies a Day -
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - April 23, 2008 - Building on its long-term
leadership in promoting energy efficient computing for both consumer and
business solutions, AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced two new 45-watt
processors, the Energy Efficient AMD Athlon(tm) X2 4450e and AMD Athlon
X2 4050e. Designed for mainstream and enthusiast power users who run
multiple processor-intensive applications, these desktop processors can
reduce power consumption by nearly 30% when compared to previous
generation AMD processors for greater performance-per-watt over AMD's
standard power desktop processors without compromising performance.1
"As energy efficiency becomes more top of mind for consumers and
businesses, AMD solutions like the Energy Efficient AMD Athlon X2 4450e
and AMD Athlon X2 4050e processors stand out as smart - and cost
effective - choices," said Leslie Sobon, director of product and brand
management, Desktop Division, AMD. "These processors reflect the latest
efforts by AMD to stay in front of efficient computing developments,
providing processors that help enable our industry partners to build
systems that meet new ENERGY STAR(r) computer specifications."
AMD's commitment to efficiency and energy conservation has been
a key driver of its innovation for years, with the introduction of
Direct Connect Architecture and the concept of "performance-per-watt."
The line of energy-efficient 45-watt processors is designed to help
reduce the noise and heat
emitted from systems and offer a quiet, more pleasant computing
experience. When paired with the AMD 780G chipset, Energy Efficient AMD
Athlon X2 4450e and AMD Athlon X2 4050e processors can reduce power
consumption at idle or during low usage, while helping to assure peak
power efficiency for power-efficient processing.
With Energy Efficient AMD Athlon X2 processors, the ability to
multitask - create digital content while checking email, for example -
allows users to do more in less time, using less energy. In fact, AMD
Athlon dual core 45 watt processors can use only a nickel's worth of
energy a day.2
Today's announcement reflects AMD's commitment to energy
efficient computing, which furthers its long standing dedication to
corporate environmental responsibility, with other efforts including:
* AMD's Global Climate Protection Plan outlines strategies to minimize
the potential impact of our operations on global climate change. In
2008, AMD exceeded its goal of reducing its greenhouse emissions by 40
percent. 3
* Through its DTX specification, AMD is enabling broader adoption of
small form factor (SFF) PCs. This specification helps OEMs and system
builders to bring to market innovative solutions that are small, quiet
and offer a more pleasant experience in the office or home.
* In 2005, AMD Cool'n'Quiet(tm) technology received special recognition
from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in recognition of
its advances in energy efficient computing technologies.
