How do you plan to cope with rising gas prices?
I read a headline on the internet a while back that states gas prices are projected to reach $5 (that's five dollars!) a gallon by Labor Day.
Other than the standard, "given" responses, I wondered if anyone would like to share any unusual ideas.
I am a woman who is probably too old to operate a motorcycle, however, I am considering learning to determine if I should invest in one. God knows I would spend less wherever I went too. LOL

I will ask if I can work from home a couple days a week. Other then that, get a car that does better on gas.

If I can take the bus to do errands I will, bike places too. Just have to deal, that and my first new car, will definitely get really good gas mileage, even if it costs me more

Well, I've already downgraded to driving a roller skate. Hmm, maybe I could add a mast and use wind power to help out... hehe...

I've been pushing at work to work remotely. My team is spread out over the country and I already have all the tools to work remotely. Unfortunately our director is from the old school way of thinking where you have to have your butt in your chair (at the office) to actually be able to work. Of course that doesn't apply at night or on weekends when I get called at home. Let's see... laptop (check) data card (check) cell phone with unlimited usage (check)... hmmm, yeah a tough one!

it was funny watching the CEO of ExxonMobil on the Today show this morning trying to explain how they pocketed nearly $11B in first quarter profits.

Sorry, hit submit too quickly. As for the original question, there's really not much I can do at this point to reduce my dependency on gas. I work 23 miles from home, but I drive a car that gets 28-30mpg. Too far to ride a bike, no public transit, and no one close to me that has the same hours that I can carpool with.

I've been making them bring the computers to me to fix instead of going to them. If I have to go to them, well a guys gotta pass on rising costs.

I'm in the same situation Iceman, I have the same commute, if not a few miles longer, car gets atleast 30MPG, and there is no one to carpool with.
Also, my Fiancee lives about 130 miles away from me, and I see her about every 2 weeks. That is my worries about gas prices going up. I can't wait until she is out of college and we can get a place.
