Blue Gene/L, the fastest supercomputer in the world, has broken its own speed record, reaching 135.5 teraflops - a trillion calculations a second.
That is double the speed it clocked up to take it to the number one spot in the Top 500 supercomputer league.
-- uh a trillion calculations a seconds... damn and I thought my overclocking Intel processor to 4.2GHz was flying. Why does the US government need all this processing power?
The final machine will help scientists work out the safety, security and reliability requirements for the US's nuclear weapons stockpile, without the need for underground nuclear testing.

A few years back if you want your own Super Computer and put it into your house it wouldn't fit. This puppy is compact! Blue Gene/L should fit into half a tennis court, or about 1,400 square feet.
Keep dreaming though unless you have more than $120 million to spend on it. That is around the estimated cost of the beast.
