No more beta's for us come August
We have been pleased with the stability of the OSX and Linux clients*, so instead of another beta release (the current betas expire August 2), we are preparing full-release versions.
For Linux users, the 6.02 unified client is now in full release. If run with no arguments, it will start in uniprocessor mode. If run with -smp, it will start in SMP mode on 64-bit systems only.
For OSX/x86 users, the 6.02 standalone console client is now in full release. The 6.20 installer client (which can also be run in console mode) will be coming soon--look for announcements by Adam Beberg. These clients are SMP-only.
Why the version differences? Versions 6.02 and 6.20 use somewhat different code bases, but the 6.02 OSX-console and Linux versions have no performance differences and no differences in user experience from what a 6.20 version would have. The 6.20 code base contains many nice enhancements for GUI display, which many users of the GUI clients are enjoying.
*One exception to the above: there appear to be some problems with the fah client on very recent Linux kernels--see the posts regarding that. We are still working on that issue.
