Skulltrail issues

Post by hox »

Hi everyone,

I have a Skulltrail (Intel D5400XS) motherboard running 2 qx9775 cpus. Vista 64 bit, EVGA 280GTX card, 4 Crucial DDR2 800 FB Dimms (2 gb each), PC Power and Cooling 1.2 KW Power supply, and 2 WD raptor drives in a raid 0 configuration. Case is a Coolermaster 830 series.
The machine runs very fast, I am not overclocking. Very randomly, the machine fails wiith a hardware malfunction blue screen where the message says contact vendor. I have called Intel several times on this issue and the Tech Support person said that they have no history of this event. Using google I found the same issue was discussed on the Overclockers forum. No solution was found. Some thought it may be ram related, but my ram shows no errors using the ram testing software in vista. The FB dimms are running around 55-60 degrees C with a Corsair ram fan blowing on them constantly. Others speculated that overheating of the northbridge could be at the heart of this issue. The one user in the other forum said he was on his third board. If this was his/her third board why wouldn't Intel have a record of it? This is a very expensive system to be having this type of flaky error. Any way does anyone else have any insights? Thanks Scott

Scott,

I have the system here and haven't had such a problem... I'll ask around to some of my contacts and see what they have to say about failures and what not.

i would recomend testing using memtest, as it is much more through than vista's testing tool.

Hi Apoptosis (we study that in my lab) and Martini,

Thank you for your comments. I ran 3 simultaneous instances of memtest (2000 kb) EACH and the memory checked out fine. I have provided the links below documenting that this issue seems to have affected others.
