This week the HP Performance Optimized Data Center (POD) will roll into Austin, "the live music capital of the world," for an appearance at Supercomputing '08. Energy efficiency watchers are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see the HP POD, an add-on datacenter with room in its 40-foot container for up to 3,520 Intel Xeon nodes. The HP POD is designed to accommodate additional capacity needs quickly and deliver fierce levels of performance density - it is 50% more energy efficient than traditional brick-and-mortar data center build-outs. We expect the POD will bring down the house with a lineup like that.
