Goodbye Privacy!

Post by vicaphit »

Has anyone seen the "street level" views on Google Maps? These things are crazy detailed! All you have to do is click on the little orange figure in the top left portion of the map to go to street level. This is main roads only.

Here is my road (road names removed):

I was able to look INSIDE of a car that was driving down the interstate in one street level view.

How do they do this?

Yea, I saw that! It really freaked me out! Every hundred yards or so you get a 360 degree view of everything. Talk about invasion of privacy! I hope that they stop it. It just gives the bad guys one more tool to work with.

My house is pretty far from our road, so atleast they can't see it!

Even if they have a low angle satellite taking pictures from the side, how do they get it to shoot past the buildings and such?

This is how they do it:

That's right, there are men. In vans. Driving around. All day. With cameras. Taking pictures. Of everything. Creepy eh?

Wow, I wonder why they were even in my area... Are they planning on doing this on all roads?

Most of the main ones I guess.

And if you are on there and want it taken off, you can actually ask google and they will take it off.

There are groups of people dedicated to finding interesting things going on on this street view now :P

one of the kids in my wing(in my dorm) showed everybody his house in streetview, he could see his house from the road, and a car that was parked on the sidewalk, but his was the only house on the wing that had it, everyone elses were limited to satellite, if you live in a big town, or an important one, you're gonna have streetview

There have been several suits filed due to street view cars going down private drives. The cars have also caught house fires in progress

A little more discreet taking the Google StreetView photos.

I saw a van with cameras driving down all the roads on an estate that I was walking home through. It went right by me, so if google street launches coverage on my town I'm going to check if I'm on there! 8)

Hey, on that first link, the McDonalds on 9 Mile Road in Detroit is exactly like that, the drive through is practically the street! I've been there before.
