ASUS EAH4870 Matrix 512MB Video Card Review

The ASUS Radeon HD 4870 Matrix 512MB Video Card is not your average ATI Radeon HD 4870 as it has a four pipe heat sink that is cooled by two cooling fans. This custom cooler not only lowers noise levels it drops temperatures and allows the card to be overclocked right out of the box.

When Nathan approached me with an ATI Radeon HD 4870 video card review, I immediately groaned and mumbled "Not another Radeon HD 4870." After he told me which specific card and a few seconds spent Googling, I immediately perked up considerably. ASUS' Republic of Gamers line has released some of my favorite components like the 965P Commando and the X48 Rampage Extreme. This is the first ROG branded graphic card I've laid my hands on, so I was quite jittery with excitement.

I really like what Asus is doing with the coolers on their graphics cards lately.

They look very nice.

I agree. Plus it should help. Thought I didn't see any temp results. I very much like the ideal of being able to adjust the voltages through the software bundle. Very nice.

ack, completely forgot to record any temperature results. Reassembling the rig and hopefully later tonight I'll be able to record some temperatures at various overclocks and overvolts.

Egh, I'm such a slacker :? Recorded these numbers and then got caught up in another review. Fanspeed was left on auto and the driver spun up the fan considerably during the overclock runs. The heatsink on this thing is quite efficient though and bodes well for future overclocking endeavors with more liberal volts.
