AM ABOUT TO BUY NEW PROCESSOR - HELP!!!
AM ABOUT TO BUY NEW PROCESSOR - HELP!!!
Hey guys
I am about to buy a new processor for my laptop
My processor at the moment is "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz"
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1720
Video card: 8600GT Nvidia
Memory (RAM) : 4.00GB
System type: 32 bit operating system
I need a good processor to be able to run midi and virtual instruments through my DAW and they require a minimum of a 2.4 GHz processor.
Can anyone tell me which is the most powerful processor I can buy for my laptop - even if it means buying more things to make the laptop more powerful to able to run the new fast processor.
Thanks guys Id really like some help here!

Did you look on Dell to see what the fastest processor available on that laptop was? That should give you a good idea how fast you can go and to be sure the BIOS supports that CPU.
If memory serves me correctly an Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme 2800 is the fastest processor that you can buy and install and that CPU is a beast!

But does he really need a faster chip. If it has a min requirement of 2.4 ghz it may be a p4 2.4. The core 2 should suffice to meet the min requirements if it is refering to a p4. What software are you planning to run? Not that I am one to talk someone out of upgrades.

The Core 2 CPU he has should be more than enough, but can you ever have too much CPU? ;)

Please post the software and teh requirements, that processor should be more than enough.
The fastest CPU they are currently still selling for Socket P for that laptop is the T9300

The cpu you currently have should more than suffice.
Re: AM ABOUT TO BUY NEW PROCESSOR - HELP!!!
Is it listing a 2.4Ghz P4 CPU as the minimum requirements?
And does it make any mention of dual core?
As ibleet said, I think you should be alright with your current CPU with this app.
(as it's a dual core and is much faster than a P4)

Honestly, I have a friend who makes music on his rig(midi's, etc)..a core 2 duo..and not only does that run fine, his old p4 ran fine..even my core 2 duo and ol p4 2.4 ghz ran fine when i did it..so I think you should be fine..Granted you haven't listed what software you're using but, I have doubts your current cpu is a bust on it

try overclocking.some laptops have that feature.
Re: AM ABOUT TO BUY NEW PROCESSOR - HELP!!!
I don't mean to sound like a jerk but that is horrible advice. I would almost never recommend overclocking a laptop CPU. People in this thread already said a core 2 duo is more than adequate. What’s up with you and digging up old threads anyways.

It seems to be a trend. Maybe an archaeologist? This one isn't nearly as old as the others he dug up.pwcmed wrote:What’s up with you and digging up old threads anyways.
