DG965RY - No SATA option in BIOS

Post by nophster »

Hi....

My Vista recently crashed and gives a STOP: 0x0000007B error which to my current information is related to AHCI and SATA issues. I read on several forums that this issue can be resolved by resetting the Drive config in BIOS to Legacy and IDE and to reboot which would then bypass the BSoD but when I check the options in BIOS I only get IDE and no option for SATA or RAID or anything else. Despite all this, the system still detects my Barracuda 500GB SATA on SATA Slot 0.

My question: does anyone have the faintest idea what's going on? And how do I add the SATA option to BIOS? Oh...and did I mention that I cannot get into Windows since it keeps crashing 10 sec into startup? And yes, I have tried all recovery options including Startup Recovery, Restore, chkdsk and Memory Diagnostics. Nothing seems to work.

My mobo is the Intel DG965RY running the latest version of BIOS.

That setting is to configure your SATA controller(at least that's what it said in my bios so don't quote me entirely yet) and it also crashed on me when I tried AHCI. Wont try RAID since I have no need to. But it boots perfectly in IDE and has for the years that I've known that option, even now it's set to it..Does it get past the Boot screen before crashing or does it crash when Windows is loading? Honestly at this point if it doesn't boot into Windows at all, then I'd reinstall XP and go from there. PITA? yes. But if nothing else worked, then other than what wasn't backed up there's not much else to lose to try it..

It does get past the boot screen but crashes during Vista startup. During an attempt at Safe Mode startup I noticed that the crash occured just after crcdisk.sys was loaded. Does that help?

Reinstalling Vista is not an option, I am willing to take it to the end before I do that. Thanks for the reply.

I read into the crcdisk.sys thing on Google and a few people mentioned booting of the Vista CD and using the Repair option worked. Sounds logical to me but I'm still lookin into it for ya.
