hkepc.com wrote:As the card maker doesn't wish to reveal the R520 performance yet, but we can confirm that R520 at 24pp or 32pp will not be lower than that of the GeForce 7800GTX. Even though the 32pp and 24pp R520 mass production will face some difficulties, but the 16 pipelines R520 using the 90nm core will be clocked high to maintain a certain level of competitiveness. Apart from employing TSMC to make the 90nm R520 cores, UMC will be making them as well in the near future to make up the shortage problem and we can see more of the 32pp and 24pp R520 versions.
Looks like they included upto 32pipelines (ON SOME MODELS)
Also a 512bit mem bus (twice as wide as any other!), although they only enabled support for 256bit for now

Ouch.... My wallet still hasn't recovered from OCZ and their powerstream

Better start saving now!

Without starting a, who's better thread.. I'd love to hear your views!

I suspect there will be hardly any 32pipline versions before christmas.. prob will come out as XP PE versions like the mystical agp version

What's interesting is that if they designed it with 32 pipelines... mayby they can be modded to enable extra pipelines.... We may see alot of dead cards at the beginning?

The graphics card which is claimed to be the top-of-the-range R520 XT employs Samsung’s GDDR3 1.26ns memory chips clocked at 1.40GHz

I don't know if it will be a true "total" 512bit memory bus. Here's what the TechPowerUp article said:
Internally the chip will use 512-bit memory transfers. However, the external memory interface will still be 256-bit - expect some nice marketing from ATI regarding that "feature".

I think we may have to wait and see... mayby they want to put it on the the retail box to entice customers.. could be a marketting ploy...

Mayby they will release it in the furture

I think ATI are thinking of the future... have basic support for everything (DirectX 10, 512bit bus, 32 pipelines etc.)

They know they don't need it now.. But if TSMC and UMC get the 90mn design perfected... Then ATI have their ace up their sleeve?

Eitherway.. can only mean good thing to you and me --> uber hi-res gaming with AA/AF on fulll

Whats going to be funny is each others marketting / PR game!

ahhhhhhhhhahaahahhhhhhhahhhh, mmmmm, warm semiconductor, lol. GDDR3 at 1.4 GHz?!?!?! Are you kidding me here???? Ok, now that has gotten my attention, perhaps I need to quit being so one-sided on the video card issue and see if ATI has truly improved upon their product since I last used it (which was when the Catalyst drivers first came out). Too frickin sweet  :prayer:
