ABit AV8 Overclock Issues - Any ideas?

Post by GobLox »

So I just bought this AV8 K8T800 Pro - I still have a 6800GT AGP that I can't throw away so I had to buy an AGP board. I Read the review on the AV8, Divider options including lock and pulled the trigger on this board instead of the Nforce3 unit I had my eye on. I am impressed with the board - I love the postcode readout although i wish I didn't have so many reasons to have to look at it. I like it fine really - everything but how I can't overclock it at all.

It is rock solid at Factory Freq. but even setting the FSB to 205 with AGP/PCI Supposedly locked is a recipe for disaster - the machine will post and run fine - I was happily taking down Sandra ALU/Logic Benchmarks as I stepped the FSB up 5Mhz at a time increasing Vcore when needed. Around 230x11 I decided to run 3Dmark and as soon as the program went to load anything related to 3D the machine was freeze. I never tried to burn the machine with Sandra but I bet it would have passed CPU and Memory not a hint of trouble until I loaded any program that utilized a 3Dapi.

So - went back down the FSB ladder occasionally increasing VDIMM and/or VCore as well as loosening MemTImings along the way out of disbelief when the machine would fail to run 3dmark at the steadily lowering Freqs. Until I got back down to 210 - At 210 with 1.8Vdimm, 1.6Vcore and reasonable temps (Under 50c from all involved) it still would not run 3Dmark all the way to the end. Although otherwise the machine seemed very stable.

So - Am I crazy or does this sound like a AGP/PCI bus that is getting taken for a ride? I also tried using the Dividers with appropriate FSbs (1/7 @ 231FSB, 1/8 @ 264 just for the hell of it)

I've read that the Dividers are broken on this board but Legit said everything was go.

Thanks for anything you can offer here's one for the road:
The older 939s had trouble running 4Dimms @DDR400 right? And by trouble I mean they wouldn't. This is what I've heard, I never had one.

Well I had this slick Idea that I would run 4 sticks of the Corsair XMS pro series with their multitude of blinking lights on my new venice that I assumed was capable of running 4 Dimms at 400... well All I know is that when I have 4 Dimms installed it won't run at 400 and defaults to 333. Is this right - it this crap still not fixed?

That said (and wow this post is getting long now) since it looks like i've been hosed on this Memory thing seeing as how I already have 2 sticks of XMS PRO and its too late to get a pair of 1Gbs.... If I can get this Divider issue figured out ...

Is it reasonable to assume that if I run my FSB at 231 with the divider set at 1/7th (To set AGP,PCI correct obviously) that the Memory will be over clocked by 31Mhz? (Which, if this were the case would would have the memory just below 200mhz or DDR400) Is this how it works or am I missing a piece of the puzzle.

I dunno guys give me some options here - I was up all night and ended up back at stock frequencies!
