NCAA Div. II Cross Country National Championships

Post by gvblake22 »

4th Place!!!!\:D/

Well, I have been away in sunny California for the past four days with the cross country team competing in the NCAA Division II cross country national championships. When leaving Michigan on Thursday we flew out in a snowstorm and there was 6 inches of snow on the ground. When I landed in California it was 75 degrees and sunny! HAHAHA
But it was almost 90 degrees on race day and dehydration was everywhere, including myself. :(
Regardless, I managed to finish 50th overall in the race (including foreigners) and 39th in the team score. Our team finished 4th place and got to go home with a big @$$ trophy. I was our 6th runner. Just thought I would share the news :)
Anyway, Here is a pic of me with our team trophy!

And our women's team took an amazing 2nd place! Here is a pic of the whole gang with our hardware:

This was the best the guys and the girls teams have ever done in the school's history. My goal was to be All Americal (top 30 americans in the race), but I think the heat just got to me too much and I kindof died the last 2000 meters of the 10,000 meter (6.2 mile) race. I was only about 26 seconds away from All American honors

congrats gvblake!! next time you will get it, just keep on the effort. it's allready very nice. 10 000m  holly cow! I wish I could just run that long without stopping, but I was never good in long runs (even when I was swimming, it was sprint distances). keep up the good work and next time you can report on how you got to be all american :P

Hey, thanks for the praise guys!
I wish there was a "next time", but alas, that was my last cross country race for the rest of my life. Kindof bittersweet to finally be done, but not to be able to have another shot at all american. Oh well, I guess there's always indoor and outdoor track this year where I can give it another "last" go around
14:30 5,000m here I come! :axe:

Congratulations man....... just a thought, but I have a few friends who are almost in their 40s and who are still in college....you can hang on as long as you want. You can still run the CC course.....you won't get any credit for it, and the kids will always be talking about the "creepy old guy" who follows them around the course, but hey, you never have to give up the things you love.
In all seriousness, congratulations, and now that you are done with CC, we need to put you to work on the site!

HAHAHAHAHA, I don't want to be "that guy"! :P

But yeah, I will actually have more time on my hands this next semester as I will only have 7 credits of classes, but I will still be involved full time with indoor and outdoor track. Lemme know if I can help you guys out at all :)
