unhappy marriage is bad for your health

Post by Apoptosis »

This is a pretty interesting read about how a happy marriage impacts all aspects of life.
There is even more proof that an unhappy marriage is bad for your health, researchers reported on Monday. The stress that comes from discord appears to slow the initial production of a blood protein that is key to healing wounds, the report from Ohio State University said.
"Couples who demonstrated consistently higher levels of hostile behaviors ... healed at 60 percent of the rate of low-hostile couples," said the report published in the December issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry

The title states: "an unhappy marriage is bad for your health"

But I'd also be willing to bet that the inverse is also true: "a happy marriage is good for your health".

umm yeah, marital stress lowers the amount of a certain blood protein reponsible for healing....but that can also be true of any stress, if it's intense enough.....it also induces increased cortisol production, which makes you have to presence of a "beer gut" (I should know, my life's full of it, lol)

Explains why I'm so healthy, I guess. \:D/

I read the article...Sounds interesting, but also sounds a bit like common sense. Of course if you're in a marriage where you have a lot of disagreements and heated arguments, your stress levels are going to be high...I can't imagine letting them intentionally put blisters on my arms...then tell me to get in an argument with Illuminati? We have a good marriage, and I think it would be difficult to intentionally quarrel. I think that this is just a waste of good research money -- kind of like the study that found that people like chocolate because it tastes good... :ANAL:

Men have porn, women have chocolate.

Wonder why chocolate doesn't have the same effect on men. :P

Add those 2 together........then chocolate becomes very interesting ;) :P

Nahh that article doesn't show anything new, If your happy, then you have no stress. Your body will naturally work better. You immune system gets a chance to build up defences and you gain more stamina. This just means then if you get sick your body will be in a better contition to fight any infection.
Now if your sad/depressed or stressed, then you body produces more adrenaline and you waste more energy, prob you'll eat less and even less healthy. Then your bound to be more suseptiple to cold/flu or if you cut yourself it will take longer to heal...
