Transcend or OCZ?

Post by Camride »

I'm trying to decide which DDR2 533Mhz RAM to get for my Inspiron 6000. My plan is to get 1 gig now and another gig in a month or two when I have a little more cash(or maybe when I get my tax refund). Anyway, the OCZ is currently only $10 more than the Transcend, which I've heard is pretty popular. The difference is the OCZ, besides having a great reputation, has 4-4-4-8 timings instead of the standard 4-4-4-12. Would the slightly better timings make any difference? Is there any reason to go with the Transcend over the OCZ? The OCZ also has a $10 MIR so it's essentially the same price.

What do you guys think?

BTW, we need some posts in this forum!

The differences in timings wouldn't be seen in any performance bencmarks, so don't let that influence your purchase. In terms of buying your memory ask yourself this... Which company would you rather work with when you RMA the part if it fails? If you are doing a custom build which brand would you rather tell your friends that you own?

Well, I got the OCZ and guess what? It's 4-4-4-12 after all. It didn't really end up costing anymore because of the rebate, but that was pretty dissapointing to me. I emailed OCZ about it but haven't recieved a response from them yet.
