Flashing BIOS

Post by Merlin »

Man still more problems!! So I tried to flash my BIOS per the DFI guys instructions but silly me I din't pay close enough attention so I downloaded the Winflash file for the wrong board...you have to look at the BIOS chip itself since the board version number was not listed. Anyway I took the floppy drive out of my PC and put it in my wifes so I could put the BIOS flash file on it. I got it done but now my PC will not boot to the floppy to re-flash to the right BIOS. I am using the Diamond Flash Image fo BIOS version. Can someone tell me IF I am supposed to run the file ( on my wifes puter) to get it on the floppy in bootable form?? Or do I just save it to the floppy ( thats what I have done already) If the latter is the right way how do I get it to boot since I can't get to BIOS to select boot from floppy. I have tried disconnecting all my other drives leaving only the floppy but still no go.

Did you change the boot order in the BIOS, so that your System would Boot from the Floppy?

Im not sure but the fact that the BIOS flash is called winflash makes it sound like its an executable that you run from windows to upgrade the BIOS.

How come you cant get into the BIOS? Did you flash the wrong update to it?
Does windows still load. if so try the winflash from there?

This confirms what I thought. Are you able to try this?

Do a search over at DFI-street (I can't access the site from work) and TMOD makes a BIOS update prog you can download as an ISO and burn to a CD. This will update the BIOS. He also gives EXPLICIT instructions on flashing the BIOS. I have doen this many times and it works perfectly.

I could answer all these questions but its a mute point now. I called DFI and they told me to disconnect the PSU reset the Cmos jumper and take out the battery and leave it like that for at least 30 min. I left it alone for a couple of hours and it worked. I still have my old BIOS but DFI is sending me a new BIOS chip. NewEgg said I could still return it for exchange should the new chip not fix the 5 min post problem.
