Quad-Core issue fixed on 975BX2 in next BIOS

Post by Apoptosis »

Just got word from the fine folks at Intel that the Quad Core issue on the D975XBX2 is fixed and a BIOS should be out very soon.
"This issue is fixed in BIOS BX97520J.86A.2618.2007.0212.0954 available on the internal BIOS Download site. Please verify and close issue."

Apo-

Thanks for the update. I think the last update was posted 2 days after its filename date, so hopefully we'll see this one Wednesday.

not 100% ontopic (both i think it had to to with this issue):

what does "core multiplexing" mean? people said, windows still shows 2 (or 4 on the quad) cores with it disabled? so what the heck?

@Apoptosis: can you ask the intel guys for a proper explanation of this bios setting?

Dan-

I look forward to Apo's explanation, but here's how I understand it:

Disabling core multiplexing on a Duo "turns off" one of the 2 CPUs, and allows the other to use all of the L2 cache. Since the QX6700 is two separate, complete Core 2 Duos in the same package, when core multiplexing is disabled, there are still 2 CPUs.

I will be interested in seeing what they came up with, other than disabling 2 cores.
