Spray Cooling

Ever heard of "spray cooling". Basically sealing off an area of electronics and then spraying a broad mist of water over the hot spots. According to this company at IDF the United States military is using this technology in recent war ships and other sea crafts to help keep temperatures down. They are also looking into solutions for the desktop

According to the sales people on hand the spray method cools better than direct air or water cooling. Once I started to ask more in-depth questions I found out these guys were sales people only.

Here is the kicker though... "liquid spray-cooling could dissipate at least 400 watts per square centimeter"

Somehow spraying water on your computer gear seems a bad idea

In the future a Mobo and components might have a non conductive sealer coat hat would allow that-and the military may already have such mods as they'd want weatherproofing. As to any rig you may have,it would make lots of neat sparks,some steam and smoke and void all warranties.

The wreckage however would cool off quickly.

That's basicly the idea behind some of the newer "jet impingement" water blocks........

like the Swiftech Storm..............

Cathar storm block ya mean. ;) Swiftech just licensed the design.

Are you sure they are using water to cool?

Yeah, those "jet impingement" water blocks are well known. A friend of mine also has the "Swiftech Storm" waterblock. And, indeed, this is a great waterblock!!!
