Wrong Business Practices

Post by NAiLs »

Let me start out by saying, I will not name the business. You can speculate all you wish, but I do not want to say the name of the business... sorry.

After hearing this from a former employee of this PC Shop in WI, I'm disgusted... and I'm sure you will. Maybe it's just this one shop of theirs, I don't know. They have numerous stores throughout WI, all independently owned.

This one particular shop has some rotten employees working for them.... oh wait, management. ;)

Say a person comes in with a problem with their PC. The tech's will say, "Oh, sounds like a hard drive problem. We'll call you when it's fixed." So, the problem could possibly be just software related, but NOOO, these guys will go to the extreme. They will unplug the drive and DROP it on the floor!! Sounds like real HDD problems now.

A second scenario is involving 2.5" drives. They're fragile little buggers as we all know. These guys will pull them out, turn the computer on, and press as hard as they can on the case so the head scrapes the hell out of the platter. HDD problems anyone?

A third scenario involves upselling. These guys REALLY want to get people into a new computer instead of their 3 year old PC. They want the commission for selling the new PC. So, the person brings in a computer with a problem, they again want a new PC sale, so they'll stick a screw driver in the PCI slot, turn the system on, and fry everything. Oops, multiple problems with this system... Looks like you'll be needing a new $2,000 system, sir!

What the hell can even be done with these guys? This is extremely shady business practice and something needs to be done about them. One thing that is holding this former employee off from spilling the beans, is he's good friends with someone that works there who bought a new house some time ago.

Take the bull by the balls and turn them in if you have the proff, good friend or not. If the "FRIEND" is also pat of the problem, he needs to get punishedjust like everyone else, new house or not. No one needs friends like that IMHO.

Well for one, i would file a complaint with the BBB, and see if others have. I dont know about where you live, but here local news stations run expose's on things like that. If this person that works there is your friend, tell him/her to get another job. As a former employee what you have to say will carry some weight.

Video tape a perfectly good computer with the IDE cable or some simple thing like a disconnected PSU cable. Video tape or get their papers on the written estimate.

Next, have someone else do the same type of thing like 3 weeks later. And after another three weeks find some other simple issue and send it to them.

If they screw you on those call the AG's office and bring them the proof.
