Updating winders without windows update...

Post by bubba »

I am facing redoing yet another windows install and on some of my older Dells here at work they are SP1 for the image disks. Is there a way to have the patches that are on widows update on cd? Sucks staring at a windows update screen for an hour or two waiting for the updates to be pulled down.

I have done some looking and found Autopatcher but didn't know if there is a better way or not.

You can either install one of the update files from autopatcher.com or slipstream some updates onto an XP sertup CD.

Just like WU, has to download each time. Think I try the autopatcher to DL the updates to disk.

I've done the slipstream, but you must be careful and burn the CD at a slower rate (~8x) to make sure the thing doesn't hick-up on you. I've learned that the hard way.

Here's a link to the full SP2 download
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
so you only need to download it once (then there are a billion or so patches since SP2 was released  )

Thats why I'm going to try the Autopatcher route. My issue is with the dells, can't sliptream the image on the recovery partition. I'll be redoing the machine this week sometime, I'll let you all now if it worked.
