Automatic backup on network?? How to?

Post by bigblockmatt »

Hey guys,

At work, we have a novell network. we are connected to a sever that is located in another town. I had been accessing the files through the network...but the loading time was way to long. so i copied the files onto my computer and access them locally rather than through the network.

I would like to have the files back up to the server on the network every night. how do i tell it to back up to the server every night?

thank guys!

Well....what OS are you running on your workstation and what backup software is the server running? You can possibly sync the files with a program like viceversa or mrmirror.

Have you tried windows own bacup utility? You should be able to set it up to do an incremental backup to the network drive. (ie. backup only the files that have changed)

I have also been looking for a way to do this for free! I want to backup all my computers to 2 seperate places each night or every so may hours, etc., that way I will have a backup of the backup incase something goes wrong with a drive :)

I have noticed some external drives come with software to do this, but have not bought any since i have an external case already.

I have done a test of the Genie backup software and it sems to work pretty well, but I would rather just do a simple bat file to copy files rather than paying the money :)

cool. i think i got that to work.

one question about it. does it take the files to be backed up and put them together into one backup file or will it overwrite the files currently there in the place that it is backing up to?
