it wont shut down!

Post by Pesto »

a friend of mine came to me with a problem that his PC running WinXP MCE wont shut down, it just starts back up right away...

i tried reseating all the components, reinstalled WinXP MCE and updated everything (drivers/software)... can't be software, so im assuming somethings getting ready to die..

its a socket A mobo so if its anything other than a PSU im gonna get them to scrap it and get a whole new setup...

so what do ya'll think it could be?

Make sure the setting for reboot after BSOD is set to off, it could be crashing right near the end of the shutdown and then automatically restarting.

Obligatory Virus/Adaware/SpyBot scans too please.

hmm.. i didn't think about that..

they have AVG on it, all up to date, and everything looks clean.. since its a clean install i doubt theres any virus/adware on it right now, but im sure there was some on there before.. which is why i decided to format everything..

but i'll check on the settings tonight. Thanks!

Check the BIOS too, there's an option that you can enable/disable for power outtages. If there is a loss of power then when it comes back the computer will turn back on. Make sure that's off.
