xbox360 + portable hard drive
xbox360 + portable hard drive
Does anyone know how to get a Portable hard drive recognised by the Xbox 360? It is such a hassle to keep copying it to a flash drive..
Thanks in advance

Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
I found a fix, Just incase anyone wants to know how?
I found out that the ahrd drive has to be in Fat32 format on your portable hard drive, To do this you need the full version of Partition magic. You also HAVE to have a PATA hard drive i first tried it with a Sata hard drive it it didnt work.
Thats it, its rather simple once uve done it.

Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
Just remember that FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GB
Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
Well that is very odd then, because i converted a 160gb PATA hard drive into fat 32 and its still the same size?

Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
What ken means by that is that you can't have single files larger than 4GB, you can still have your 160GB FAT32 formatted drive, but say try and put a video or something that is larger than 4GB and it won't let you.

Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
that explains alot! thats why it wouldnt let me copy some ISO's, so if i want to use it for a file that big i guess i would have to split it up using WinRar

Looks like we are getting into the realm of mods and hacks, I would watch what you post to avoid that. Though I could be wrong.

Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
is it so ilegal for me to backup games and mount the image instead of having to keep swapping dvd's?

I just don't hear of a lot of people who go through all of that trouble to not have to load a CD when they want to play. I meant no offense.

Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
The xbox still runs off it original hard drive but to watch tv series on it i got a portable hard drive to have them stored on it and then the xbox can recognise the portable hard drive and can view them

Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
ill have to try it out some time
Re: xbox360 + portable hard drive
I must really be a noob. I recently bought a 320gb portable hard drive to use with the xbox to watch movies. I thought I could just load some movies on it, plug it into the box and watch my movie. Boy was I wrong. I ready your posts, but when I go to reformat it I only get 2 choices. NTFS or ExFAT I have tried them both and it still does not recognize it. Is someone willing to take my hand and walk me through this step by step?? If not I just spent $60 for nothing.
THank you, in advance. Girly Noob
