Dell XPS 400 Want to replace 375W Power Supply with 450W PS
Does anyone know of a Brand and Model that will work. ATI X1950 Pro calls for 450 Watt minimum and my Dell XPS 400 came with a 375W Power Supply.
Thanks
Thanks

Isn't the XPS 400 a BTX computer? If it is I'm not sure what to tell you as I've not built or messed with BTX computers. I can't believe Dell put a 375W PSU in computers they sold in 2004-2006... It's insane and they have no upgrade path listed... Gotta Love Dell
I guess you need to find out if you have an ATX or BTX system and then figure out if a regular PSU will mount in the case (meaning has enough room).

It is a BTX Case
The XPS 400 chassis is notable for two reasons: First, it’s a BTX case that opens up on the right side, not the left like most ATX solutions. Second, one of the ways the case gets ventilation is through a two inch “gapâ€

Re: Dell XPS 400 Want to replace 375W Power Supply with 450W PS
I reserched around and some ppl said you can install other ps's in dells, some other ppl said you can't. I have a xps 400 installed a 9800gtx+ ran it for a few days with dell factory ps of 375 ran fine a lil lag sometimes. I came across a pic of a coasir I think 450w atx ps installed in a xps dell. I also came across a couple of guys saying any atx ps will it into xps 400. So, I purchased a cosair tx850w atx ps, now I know for sure that it's a btx box. I checked with everest ultimate, plus I heard it around the net. I installed the atx 850w ps with no issues it fits fine. It is a little longer than the dell ps, but it doesn't effect anything. I have also posted a link of the atx ps in my xps dell 400. This would lead me to the conclusion that you can fit and atx ps in a dell xps 400. Hope this helps ppl, I was helped around the net too. However, after hours of searching there was no certain answer aside from actully seeing a pic of a atx ps in a dell xps 420 I think. So, I made the dive no issues.
here is the link to my dell xps 400 with a cosair atx ps tx850w installed ready to go

Re: Dell XPS 400 Want to replace 375W Power Supply with 450W PS
Any new 24 PIN PSU will work with a BTX board. Back when BTX first showed up they were the only ones using the 24pin main connector, ATX was still 20 pin. Now they both (ATX and BTX) use the same power connector.
So yes one like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139003 will work in your system. Now I have a Dell BTX system on my desk there is next to no extra room in the case so I would look for a modular PSU like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139001 its a little more then you are needing, but the modular cables will make it easier to get in the case.

well isn't BTX just and upside down form of ATX you theoretically should be able to install any ATX hardware into an BTX case as it just flips the kit upside down pretty much as if you were to take an ATX case and flip it over making the top the bottom and the bottom the top least thats how it always looked to me

I've also got an XPS 400 and was looking to get a new PSU so I can upgrade the video card to a 9800GTX+. I think this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139002 will fit, but I wanted to be sure before I bought. I also wanted to know if the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 68141303399800GTX+ will fit for sure. I think it will, but if anyone knows for sure one way or another, please let me know.
