I got in the ASUS Z71 Notebook today that I will be using for my conference at Quakecon 2005 and I did find something interesting out on the new sonoma notebooks from ASUS.
The notebook comes with a PATA to SATA adapter, so the consumer can use either type of hard drive. Pretty nifty I must say.
Here are some pictures of the SATA Adapter that came with the ASUS Z71V notebook.
Can we purchase this part separately? I'm interested in the 259EN3 Uniwill Chassis and it supports SATA. I don't know whether the notebook includes an adapter similar to this or not. I'd prefer the SATA drive due to speed and energy efficiency over the PATA. I don't know that it will make THAT much of a difference... perhaps I'll have to benchmark them once I've put it together.
That's great news cause i am stuck with a SATA drive cause my lappy manual said that it supports SATA while it has only a IDE connector. If you know where I could get this you would be a lifesaver!
here's an online shop with this adapter(I'm waiting for their reply if I can buy only the adapter instead of the whole kit and can I use the Asus one or there's is special version for my notebook)
I tried to find this part but it seem impossible to buy it in Europe or in the US. So i'am looking to make my own DIY Sata Adapter for my laptop. Does anyone have the wiring diagram for this adapter? It could help me a lot.
Best regards and happy new year from Paris in France.
