This is some good stuff. I can't believe they missed the problem.

Geek Squad and Firedog, put to the test, and fail.
Re: Geek Squad and Firedog, put to the test, and fail.
not surprising at all really, but it can be up to who you happened to get, its hit or miss. some people pretend to know what they are doing, but dont have a clue, others actually know a thing or two, it luck of the draw
darn those screens of blue death(most people call them blue screens of death "BSOD"
)
BTW, what setting in the BIOS makes an "Operating System not Found" error?

rofl fail. I've seen Best Buy's weekly ads up here in Canada, and it costs over $100 just setting up a wireless network at home. The good thing is that this cost comes with a router. But who knew, just reading the router's manual or following the installation CD that the router comes with can setup a wireless network in around 10 min.

you would have to make it so that it only tries to boot onto something like a diskdrive on first second and third boot device, and disable try other boot device. pretty simple really, i like to go in to those places and act like i dont know wtf a usb port is
most of the answers are wrong. its even more fun to do that with phone support thats outsourced to india.

haha the dell support in india is the best, I called and they asked some info as I acted completely ignorant and acted like I was breaking my monitor apart looking for the numbers they asked. I don't even own a dell but, things I do for fun

Re: Geek Squad and Firedog, put to the test, and fail.
no big shocker here... sad really that the average joe has to shell out $250+ to get something fixed..
I hate to say this, but they sent a woman in with the problem. Would be interesting to send both a male and female to the store and see what the repairs would have been like. I still think people try to put more things over on women even today.

Re: Geek Squad and Firedog, put to the test, and fail.
thats true but i think the guys might of had a clue but just wanted to make the extra change because seems like these guys are lazy and didnt take the complete time to fully analyze the problem.

Re: Geek Squad and Firedog, put to the test, and fail.
That's pretty funny, I get a lot of Geek Squad/Firedog repaired machines that they essentially did nothing with. Most just needed OS reinstalled or junk cleaned out of startup. Average repair their side 200+ average repair my side that actually worked 50.

Re: Geek Squad and Firedog, put to the test, and fail.
Yep I just did a hard drive replacement for a neighbor for 50 bucks, installed XP, patched up, installed Spybot Search and Destroy, ccleaner, Norton, verified the firewall was up and running (not that the MS one is that great) and made some recommendations. Some of those places are just out to rape the consumer I swear.

That's funny, considering I used to work for Geek Squad and was a manager at Fire Dog - the reason why I'm no longer there as well. Why would you want to work for someone that's being unethical? I hated going to work after a month or two because I knew what the problems were but was forced to call and recommend bs sales.
