Re: 9600 or the 8800GTS
I'd go with the 9600GT if the 8800GTS choices are 320MB or 640MB. The old 8800GTS are slower than the 8800GT and the new 8800GTS. I'd guess that the 9600GT would be on par with the old 8800GTS series, if not a bit faster.

Re: 9600 or the 8800GTS
and why would you compare graphics cards in COMPLETELY different price ranges? you can buy 2 9600 for the same price as a 8800gts is there really a point to compare further than that? Your contest SHOULD be from 8800gt to 9600gt thats more of a understandable question

In this case the cheaper card is better...hercules71185 wrote:and why would you compare graphics cards in COMPLETELY different price ranges? you can buy 2 9600 for the same price as a 8800gts is there really a point to compare further than that? Re: 9600 or the 8800GTS
WAIT, haha cancel that 3850 ALL together, its not a competitor for what you are looking at. The card you showed first was the 9600gt (good its what you are trying to compare) then, you are comparing it TO the 8800GT not GTS. The 8800gt is better than the 9600gt, Not by much, But, the 8800gt and 9600gt are better for what you want than the 8800gts. GTS is out, and the 2 gt cards are what I just posted about right after you trying to find what's better for the value, everyone replied saying it is the 8800gt.

This is why I askedZertz wrote:In this case the cheaper card is better...hercules71185 wrote:and why would you compare graphics cards in COMPLETELY different price ranges? you can buy 2 9600 for the same price as a 8800gts is there really a point to compare further than that? and no not everyone said the 8800gt was better..
and no you cannot buy two 9600 for the price of one GTS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130082 this one is the exact same price as the 9600GT I linked to above
finally when someone asks for advise about something they usually want more explanation than "haha cancel that 3850 ALL together".
The 3850 claims the same amount and speed of memory and is at round the same price level as the others which is why I asked were it would fit. IF I knew as much as you do about these cards I would not ask so I would appreciate it if you would take the " thats a dumb question" tone out of your answers

Re: 9600 or the 8800GTS
I didn't mean it's a dumb question in any way, it was MUCH better than the 8600gt and 8600gts when it came out in the same price range. I just mean you are comparing the higher line cards than it.
I'll do a little more writing before bed but, I'll explain in full tomorrow if no one else does.
3850 is the a good card and pretty cheap. And compare it to the 3870. The 3870 is slightly more on par with the 8800gt.
But, the 8800gt still prevails 95% of the time.
Now the harder question, the 8800gt and 8800gts.
Both are ALMOST equal cards and they swap on ranking depending on the benchmark used. They are very close cards.
But, the power consumption of the gts that you listed is MUCH higher than the 8800gt you listed.
That gts is a very good deal for that price I must admit. My friend has one and all I remember was his aquamark 3 score. It was 165,000 and the GPU score was 30,000 or right around.
Now power consumption not being an issue nor price, you are looking at a close battle aside from the amount of ram. 320 is good 512 is more ideal for gaming.
This may or may not help you but, just know you will not be unsatisfied in any way when you play.
The question I'm still in debate about is the 9600gt and 8800gt....
The 9600gt is not as good as the 8800gt. But, you see the price
8800gt starts around 180 if you find a passwird.com deal. 209 on the everyday price.
9600gt starts around 160 everyday and so far I haven't seen a deal on passwird.
So by the everyday standards you save 40 bucks to throw into your PC somewhere else.
Last thing. This comparison of the 8800gt is based on the 512 model not 256. Make sure you stay clear of the 256 if you use AA or play at a decently high resolution.

Re: 9600 or the 8800GTS
It's fine but, it's border line impossible to read who a person is online so you can't tell how I speak or anything. It sucks but, hey it is what it is. Since everyone speaks differently you can never tell if they are being a dick or trying to help out lol.
