Ridiculous law in Aus

Post by kappage »

The council come around every 5 years or so to make sure that the swimming pool is 'safe' for the past 20 years (dont really know as long a the pool has been here) the pool has been like so.

Now this time they have come around tehy have said that the pool MUST have a fence around it like this (represented by the yellow line. We currently live in a house just down the 'lower level' (note their is a substantial drop down the ledge with a 'stair case'. I find this abosolutly ridiculous. And what is even more so ridiculous i have relatives that literally live down the street who have a pool all 'safe' and yet they have a pond in their backyard that is easily twice teh size of our pool and deeper and yet they dont have to fence that off!!

Their is currently a couch out back and where we Have to put the fence their is going to be a huge metal pool fence in the way!!!

Thanks for reading atleast, i just find this a load of BS considering that 5 years ago they came once before and said that it was fine!!!! ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Put it up for show, then take it back down when they leave. Sucks that you'd have to buy all the fencing still.

We can take the original fance but im not sure if we are going to risk it, I have spoken to a friend to see if we can setup some self closing mechanism then get some security door fly wire stuff

Alot of places are changing laws for pools so they have to have separate fencing, most here in my area still require a child safe lock of some kind to the steps of a pool for above ground types.

The in-laws have a nice big in ground setup in and have it set up as part of the security system that if anyone opens a door or the gates to the back yard where the pool is the alarm chirps though out the house. The locks to the fence gates had to be over certain height. From what I remember the father in law telling me this was part code and part required by insurance.

Eventually the law will state that you have to pour concrete into your pool.

I'm glad I live in a rural area without any city codes. We can do pretty much anything out here, and nobody bothers us.

my pool is 45'x20' and it has an all concrete pad around it and what we could use for a fence was a roughly 3' wall around it(lemme explain: the pool area is raised from the rest of the yard by 3 foot, while the entire yard is sloped, the pool area is level and the concrete wall is where the pool area ends, so the "wall" goes no higher than the height of the pool, but is there, and it goes around 2 sides of the pool, the other two sides aren't raised much from the yard

now if you can decipher that...

we kinda made it the most appealing way, sticking to pool-fence laws :P
