Question, I have a shiny new E7200 but it's only supported in the latest 12f beta version of my motherboard's BIOS. How do I upgrade the BIOS using the DOS utility if I don't have a floppy drive?
Against good judgment, I tried upgrading using Gigabyte's @BIOS but that one errored out before even starting.

Does your board support USB booting/Flashing?

Re: Gigabyte P35-DS3R rev 2.1 bios update
USB booting, supposedly, but I've never gotten it to work. USB flashing, I haven't seen mentioned anywhere on the product support page. The DOS and Q-flash utility both require floppies, and the @BIOS utility runs from Windows. When I first built it, I was trying to install Windows XP using a USB DVD drive since I was still waiting for the internals to arrive but it won't boot, even when it has the highest boot priority in the BIOS. If you can point me to instructions on how to create a bootable DOS flash drive, it might be worth a try (obviously, I'll just attempt to boot to DOS while testing and not head directly to the BIOS flashing part)DMB2000uk wrote:Does your board support USB booting/Flashing?

Re: Gigabyte P35-DS3R rev 2.1 bios update
If you have an IDE CD drive, you can try making a bootable CD (most burner programs have an option to make one), putt the bios flash files and tools on it, then attempt to flash from there.

Re: Gigabyte P35-DS3R rev 2.1 bios update
Really easy one here..just put the unzipped bios file on a flash drive, reboot and enter qflash. you should see the flash drive in a list of options to choose from, then find your bios file.
Re: Gigabyte P35-DS3R rev 2.1 bios update
Thanks for the tip! That worked perfectly. The BIOS update took much less time than I expected. I guess the instructions on Gigabyte's website is out of date. Either that or it was just inaccurate. It specifically mentioned a floppy disk was required.Bwall wrote:Really easy one here..just put the unzipped bios file on a flash drive, reboot and enter qflash. you should see the flash drive in a list of options to choose from, then find your bios file.
