Re: Operation Fold-a-Way - Giving Back To Those Who Fold

Post by stev »

Up to the middle of summer I was folding for the team. Standford did a recalculation to the points scale causing my daily folder to go from 500-692 point down to 192-240. For the time it took to fold and leave the power running 24/7, my efforts cost a bundle to the electric company for the point reduction.

If or when I have a decent system to fold once again that allows the points to matter over the electric bill, I would jump back into the game.

Also, I had to retire both of the Dell 400Mhz and 650Mhz machines from folding since the points were sub 100 to matter much of a differnce.

A PS3 Arcadia running from 9pm to 6am for just a mere $199 can out fold my entire obsolete farm of computers running 24/7. I've given that a thought over other hardware just to get back into the game.

I am not sure if they still do but i though Dell used to have proprietary PSU. You might want to check into that. I'd hate to see you fry your motherboard.

second (if were allowed more than one nomination) id like to nominate skierkid because i accidentally shipped him a mobo with the wrong bios on it. Sorry!
i'd take that nomination :) because i already have all but a case and HDD for that stuff(i have a 550W PSU unused from my attempts to get the 3870X2 working, and cheap aftermarket S939/AM2/AM2+ cooling from when ken was gonna give me his Athlon 64 X2 3800 stuff(which fell through epicly)) and that could be my 24/7, in-the-basement folder

btw, T-Minus 3 hours 'till BIOS update 8)

Yeah, I definately know that I can use any PSU... I had a 1KW PSU in the thing for a few months from a contest from a great website... I can't quite remember the name... Wait, I think it was LEGIT REVIEWS!

Anyway, I posted my PSU post in the proper subforum. I will be editing this post soon with pictures of the videocard.

Consider a college student letting his gaming rig fold GPU2 client and an x86 client as often as possible?

aka me xD I'm already paroozing the stat list and I'm pretty certain I know who I'm going to nominate, but take into consideration the fact that I can't sleep with this machine on and I'm folding as much as I can :D

Wow, i almost missed the thread! been busy with the remodel, work, kids etc.

OK just want to say that there are lots of people here the deserve to be nominated and it will be hard to just pick one! just going down the list there are so many dedicated folders including people that dont put up many points that dont have dual cores or Quads to fold on (i'm one of those actually) So just want to tell everyone good luck! and fold on....

Sorry, I have been a bit lazy lately, here are some pics of the new 9600gt.

4 video outs, and one optical audio out... SCORE! The MoBo manual is out for the spdif connection. I have 2 unlabled wires that go to the card, and 3 places where I can plug the 2 wires into the mobo.

Maybe I should take off the plastic cover and paint it black.
