CD drive disapeared?

CD drive disapeared?

Im using vista x64 SP1 on my htpc, one day i try to install cod4, while it installs it throws "-3 path not accessible" or something along those lines, and now my CD/DVD/Blur-ray drive has simply disappeared. not visible in my computer, or device manager. ive tried restarting and that didnt help. any one ever have this happen to them? :-k

My dad had that happen with some machining software on his xp machine. Though he did not get any errors and rebooting brought the drive back. That may not help but at least your not alone. Ill ask him tomorrow if he ever got the issue resolved.

You know I just built a PC for someone that is having the same issues. Probably not related but I thought it was weird enough to post. I hate troubleshooting over the phone so I'm just getting the computer back. With the little troubleshooting I did we determined that it is showing up in the BIOS and the device manager. Device manager says that the drivers are not loaded which weird because it was working when I gave it to him.

well i did manage to solve my problem, power downed the pc and unpluged and repluged the sata cable and now it works fine :-k

My fix

I found this sweet software called team viewer and had the user just run it. This is the easiest remote software I have used.

Anyways I found that it had code 39 on the drives. Googled it and found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Followed the manual instructions, restarted and bada boom it worked.
