Network Switch?

Post by skier »

as i have never looked for one, what would you recommend, i found this D-Link one on the egg, and it has a 5star avg out of 270+ reviews, comparatively seemed to have the best specs for the price

D-Link DGS-2208, 10/100/1000Mbps, 8-Port, Desktop Green Ethernet Switch, 8 x RJ45, 8K MAC Address Table, 144KB per Device Packet Buffer Memory seems to be good

i'm looking for the ~$50 price range, really don't want to go above 50, the more ports the merrier, thanks for your input guys :prayer:

I <3 my Netgear Gigabit switch, but for your budget, you land around here (after rebate)...

I have the 16 port version of that switch that I paid $150 or so for a year ago. It's been to a lot of LAN parties, bumped, bruised, and still going strong.

Maybe that product of theirs is better than some others. I have a few pieces of Netgear hardware that will be used for target practice this Spring  I'm not talking smack on them, so don't take me too seriously. In fact this is really a nonsense post that has no purpose in this thread what-so-ever, but I can't stop myself and will now click on submit.

I usually only use D-Link NIC's and Linksys routers/switches... but at the time I bought this gigabit switch, the Linksys was around $300, and this one was on sale. i gave it a shot and it's been great. it even came with a free router, wireless I think, that I've never taken out of the box. *probably ought to list that in the classifieds*

does the MAC address table matter? the one you linked is 4k, and the D-Link is 8k, also the user satisfaction avg. is a lot higher on the D-Link, something to consider for paying $15 more?

i just went and got a cheapo linksys 5port, MAC address of 1k, it was $29 at wally world(don't have to wait for it to ship and other problems entailed with buying online) if it is what is cost, then might go for what you suggest DaIce, maybe not
