AOL Amps up Mobile Offerings With Android, HTML5 Support

AOL this week is diving into the mobile world in a big way. The Internet mainstay announced the launch of an online smartphone portal and an app for Google's Android mobile operating system.

The new smartphone portal, located at m.aol.com, utilizes HTML5, supported by a large number of handsets, including Android devices and the Flash-defiant iPhone. The site offers content from a number of AOL offerings, including news and local, location-based content, including weather, mobies, and traffic. The portal also features links to mobile apps and video content support.

For those Android users who want to access AOL content from the convenience of an app, the company announced two new apps for the mobile OS. The first, simply called AOL, gives users access to content from sites like PopEater, Engadget, MapQuest, and AOL Mail. The second app, DailyFinance, offers access to financial news and real-time stock quotes. Users can also track up to 25 portfolios with the app.
