hi, i have an asus a7v333 motherboard, which according to official figures, support pc2100 NON-ECC ddr. and now i have a samsung pc2100 ddr but is an ECC, and after i installed it, the system does not start up. nothing show up at all on the screen, total black, just like when switched on without memory installed.
is it because NON-ECC motherboard not compatible with ECC? or the memry stick itself is broken(which i think is the case)
also, how can i know wat memory sticks is suitable for my mainboard, i mean wat figures (apart from pcxxxx, ddrxxx and fsb) should i read? coz normally there are many figures on a memory stick but little metioned in the mainboard spec. things like cl, ecc/non ecc may affect compatiblity but cant be bad enought to halt the system is it right??
many thanks!!!!!!!
asus a7v333 memory compatibility issue?

What processor do you have?
It is probably the fact that you have ECC memory that is making the board not POST. Can you get a stick of regular non-ECC DDR memory to try in there just to make sure the board is ok?
As far as buying new memory, just make sure it's DDR, non ECC, and unregistered/unbuffered.
And about the other "numbers", those refer the "latency" of the RAM chips. Basically, any latency should be compatable with any motherboard. A good rule of thumb is that when comparing two sticks of memory that are the same DDR speed, the one with the lower latency numbers will perform better. Notice I didn't say that the lower the number the better... That's because that statement is not always true. RAM that runs at much faster speeds will actually have higher latency numbers but still possibly perform better than a lower latency, slower speed memory. But that's a whole differnt subject, and I'll go into more depth if you want me to.
Basically for your purposes, buying DDR333 RAM that is non-ECC, unbuffered, and has a CAS latency of 2 or 2.5, you should be set to go with some nice RAM
