New toy - Samsung 930B

Didnt know which section to put this in.

I just got the Samsung 930B monitor at Circuit City's website ( store pickup ) for $320+tax after $30 rebate!!!

Now for my questions. This is my first LCD for myself. I have noticed that the screen resolution should be what the Manufacturer states!! That is a LOT different than my old CRT. So I now am at 1280X1024 at 60hz. My question is this...I had my crt at 100hz, and it was REAL nice for my eyes. Will this one at 60hz cause a bunch of strain? I can only change it up to I think 72hz at the max ....

Next - I am going to be getting a DVI cable within a couple weeks. Is there anything special I would need other than a DVI-D M-M cable? does the AWG matter?

I enabled ClearType awhile, even though I wont get the improvement until I get the DVI cable.

Any other tips/suggestions will always be appreciated.

I have this same exact monitor and i love it!!!!!! probably better than my dell 21n CRT. Unfotunetly i dont think there is anything you can do about the RR. it is stuck at 72hz and i have it used as my second monitor in dual monitor and main monitor for lans and i havent had any problem with eye strain/headaches or anything like that.

As far as the DVI cable goes GET IT ASAP!!! It makes things sooo much better. All you need to do is just plug it in and use it like your standard vga cable.

I can actually see a 60Hz refresh rate flicker with my bare eyes on a CRT monitor. It drives me nuts. However, I never really notice the refresh on LCD monitors even when running 1280x1024 at 60Hz. I guess the display holds the light long enough for the next refresh to paint.

Although I'm still running a 21' CRT at home (Sony Trinitron), The three LCD monitors on my desktop at work are all running 1280x1024 at 60Hz. I stare at them all day long and it doesn't bother me one bit.

I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy your new monitor!

I too can see the refresh on CRT's!! That was my concern

It is giving me some strain, but it might be because of using the 19" CRt for so long my eyes have to adjust a bit..?? It is also a LOT brighter than my CRT was..REAL bright.

Awesome to watch movies on though...I was watching with the sun blazing in through the windows, and NO GLARE!!!! I will keep it just because of that!!

Also - any tips on the DVI cable? just DVI-D M/M ? any special thickness? I see 24AWg and 28AWG and was wondering if the 24AWG is worth the extra money or not.

unless you are going to wire it up at long distances than no. My friend has a monster cable DVI and i have a regualr basic one and both of us cant see any differance.

coming from an old CRT to the ViewSonic VX924 and its 100000 times better.

What benefits do you get from a DVI cable over an SGVA?
Facts please, not just "it's better" or " you can achieve higher resolutions". I can get 2048x1280 with my SVGA cable which is actually too tight for me. I just don't see a reason for DVI on a PC.

From what I understand, the text is a lot clearer and the colors are more vibrant/accurate

I could very well be wrong, but that is what I heard

I think the digital is faster than the analog also..??
