I took my tube to the local radiator repair shop where they are going to silver solder it for $5. I figured since I don't have any extra tube I better let the professionals do it and for $5 it will be done right the first time. I pick it up this afternoon. I also found a place close to my house that sells dry ice by the pound and is just 10 minutes away.

Awesome. see i don't know of any local shops that I could get that done where I live... and a real bonus for dry Ice (again, wouldnt know where to start looking!). Though extreme cooling isn't my cup of tea right now, maybe when I have a real job and money to burn

well I just picked up my tube from the radiator shop and i learned something... Don't sand anything till you get it all brazed or soldered up... They ended up charging me $10 to silver solder the tube and thought I was making a pipe bomb. I tried to explain I was using it for computers and they just kinda laughed like I was kidding.

Here is a picture without any cleaning...

Image

Here it is after roughing it up with 600 grit sand paper for a second.

Image

Now I'm waiting on the neoprene insulation to arrive and then I get to try it out! I have a lot of sanding to do on the base again and to get this sucker cleaned up... sigh... oh well I have a 3-5 days for my danger den package to arrive.

Well the joint did need to be clean to solder properly, whether they would have charged you even more if they had to sand it as well it s different question. But yeah, sucks that you have to re-lap it lots again, is the cap thick enough to take that punishment again? :P

Pipe bomb, lol, next time dress up in some suspicious clothes and see if they will still do it :P

The silver solder really f'd up my already flat and polished base... I'm working it out when I get bored of working on articles, but it's getting there.

finally got it all blocked out... I got up this morning at 6am and it's a cloudy day, so the picture turned out bad, but here it is after some time with 2000 grit sand paper.

Image

The tube is done... Just need to find decent insulation.

Looks interesting. I just wonder about having it get too cold and causing problems with condensation or making things on the Mobo brittle? Very cool idea though hope to see it in use and seeing the numbers on it.

finally got some more time today to do something other than write articles, so I went up to home deopt and got some more stuff...

I got 2 and 1/8" pipe insulation and some adhesive 1/8" thick neoprene tape.

Image

I ended up using just the adhesive tape and put it on with a 50% overlap and two coats of it making it a 1/4" thick all the way around.

I put in a few phone calls and a couple companies have been nice enough to send me some 'older' video cards and motherboards to use for this event. I informed them that it's highly likely they will be killed under dry ice and all were okay with it, so now I'm waiting just waiting on the product to come in. Now I just need to go buy nail polish to seal the PCB... great first i'm a bomber now I'll be a crossdresser at walmart. LOL

what ever happened? What was the result? did the condensation fry the processor or were you able to control it? Or did you just get too bust to finishe it!!?
