Does anyone else get this bored at work? I've found a new obsession with reading articles on hardware now...

Work
I'm in training class for Embarq DSL right now to do phone support (I used to work for Lucent Tech installing DSLAMS, I already know all of this).

Re: Work
I've worked for ~6 1/2 years doing tech support of some kind. Almost 6yrs of that is ISP support like you, mostly dealing with DSL.Tech_Greek wrote:I'm in training class for Embarq DSL right now to do phone support (I used to work for Lucent Tech installing DSLAMS, I already know all of this).

If it wasn't for this forum I doubt I'd still be sane...........the ONLY way I could cope with the stupid questions was switch to robot mode.........I'd ignore everything the customer said, after they ranted on for ~10mins about how slow their connection was I'd ask them to disable norton firewall.....and what do ya' know.....it magically worked....imagine that!
In the past year I haven't taken a single inbound call........I thought it would be great.........man was I wrong....now I'm lucky if I even see google in work..............just don't have the time
Tech_Greek hang in there! DSL support does/should get better later on and even if it doesn't it's great experience in basic networking..........remember nearly everyone has to "serve their time" before getting that cushy IT job!
Ohh and if you Co. provides online training or you have free time in the evenings, do a course in CCNA or something, It is really beneficial when your sitting infront of the Boss in that interview ;) (it shows ambition!)

Well,
Professionaly speaking I worked for Circuit City (Fire Dog) for about 2 years doing inhome networking and a year for Best Buy doing the same (Geek Squad).
I had a job offer here for the Times doing IT, but it was only 11/hr @ 30 Hours and I couldn't survive off of that.
I'm thinking about relocating for a better job, if anyone has anything open up around them, if they could tell me that would be great, at least $12/hr@40 HRS would be great.
