Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home, his publicist, Wesley Combs, told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night.
Reeve was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.
So, the article doesn't really say...was his cardiac arrest directly related to the infection or was that just a piece of useless information thrown out there?
They are saying that the infection caused a blood clot that gave him the hart attack.
I have to say i am very sad that we have lost him, i for one was truly hoppeing that he would one day walk again. I read his biography several years ago and he was in many ways a very interesting and strong person. I can just hope that research, ie stem cell, can help people like Reeve overcome thier injuries.
"Don't open that! It's an alien planet! Is there air? You don't know!"
Seems like it was just yesterday he got that injury, he did make a lot of noise about getting more done about research for such injuries. Like you said, I too always hoped he'd walk one day...
I have a feeling most of his estate will go to research to help others. Hopefully something good will come from his death. He sure did bring stem cell research to the public eye. Many props for that.
