Just try and plug the external drive to one of the black SATA. It works fine for my external HDD.slickmarty wrote:Update: I diabled the secondary SATA controller in the Bios and am not using the Marvell or the ESATA or blue ports. Am just using the external 320Gb Seagate SATA HD as a USB device. What a waste of a great HD. I wanted to use the ESATA for video work but will have to find another way for now. 3 blue and 1 red SATA ports that are good for nothing. Thanks Intel. Thanks Marvell.

I am emailing with someone at Intel about my problem with those ports. Maybe you can too? Maybe They will assign someone to fix it?

Re: getting E SATA to work on d975xbx2
FYI: I installed a Addonics ADST114 PCI SATA card (with it's latest firmware) to replace the Marvell functionality for my burners. It's working out so far.
Intel support asked me to try a different MFG drive (i'm using Pioneer), so I will try a lite-on when it arrives.

Addonics.com has a whole product line of cards. If you are looking for eSATA, the 144 is not for you. As far as JBOD, I do not know much about it other than what the specs say. Just make sure you call tech support for the latest firmware when you get your card. They seem to ship with very old stuff (that does not work very well) and the updates are not on their web site directly. With new firmware, the card is working fine although I did not get all 4 drives hooked up to it yet to fully test.
