October 2006 Forum Contest - Folding For ATI Radeon GPU's
count me in. I wish I had a conroe system but oh well

Nate, pretty sweet contest you got here. I just wish I had a spare system laying around.
I could maybe look at getting my 4 year old system back up and running, but that thing had big problems last time I ran F@H on it.
Regardless, I wish everyone good luck in this contest! This is by far one of the coolest contests LR has run.
Thank you ATI and LR for putting this on!

Once again since one prize is designed for the top points per CPU and the other is based off overall points... it means you can go get a bunch of friends and family signed up under your name. By doing that you could be in the running for the ATI Radeon X1900XT 256MB.... Right now the top folder has 12 PC's runing under his name... 12 is something any of us can top with a few phone calls and e-mails.l I know if someone really wanted to try they can get 12+ systems folding for the team. If you can't get that many it's still fun to do and it's for a great cause... protein folding and medical research!snowking03 wrote:The prize is going to go to whoever has the fastest computerguess that does me no good.

actually not really. They are only at max gonna average 440ppd. And you can't run the regular client in conjunction. Remember this is just a beta client so its full of bugs and doesn't work right half the time.cadaveca wrote:GPU folders are at a distinct advantage.![]()
guess i'll forgo crossfire and split the cards up

i will figure out how to run two instances on my 165 when i get home.

Folding on an ATI card will give more performance than a CPU but Stanford don't give alot of points for the returned work.cadaveca wrote:GPU folders are at a distinct advantage.![]()

using a gfx card will get bigger, or more complicated work units computed, but they are still worth the same (points) as one folded on a CPU......
FAH is designed to reward your time folding not the size work unit.
ie. you could get a 600pt WU but it will take ~2days to complete or you could get a whole bunch of ~50pt WU's which would take less time.
Good luck everyone!
So, if i just commit my 2 x1900's to the team, i should be getting 220ppdx2 for each card, and then some, as my gpu finishes WU's in 10hrs
I had 5 cpu instances going before...this got me barely 1000ppd, with 1 core @ 2.0ghz, 2@2640, and 2@3ghz. 13.24ghz for less than 1000ppd, or two gpu's for 880ppd...i've already turned in a few gpu WU's and have been getting 536pts/WU, BTW. @ 10 hrs, this nets me more with one gpu in one day, points wise, than my 13.24ghz.
SO i beleive you are wrong there bub.

assuming it doesn't error out, which it does a lot.cadaveca wrote:So, if i just commit my 2 x1900's to the team, i should be getting 220ppdx2 for each card, and then some, as my gpu finishes WU's in 10hrs![]()
All depends on the cpu and how you tweak it. 5cpus and 1000 ppd is good. I have 4 and only get 500+I had 5 cpu instances going before...this got me barely 1000ppd, with 1 core @ 2.0ghz, 2@2640, and 2@3ghz. 13.24ghz for less than 1000ppd, or two gpu's for 880ppd...i've already turned in a few gpu WU's and have been getting 536pts/WU, BTW. @ 10 hrs, this nets me more with one gpu in one day, points wise, than my 13.24ghz.

Brian Wallace and I are running X1900's with CATALYST 6.5's and not had an error yet and have turned in nearly 10 work units. We also found that you can use ATI Tool to set the card clocks to run 3d mode speeds all the time. This will cut the folding time down a lot... We were folding a WU at 8min per step and with 3d clocks it reached 5mins per step... 40% faster by just changing that.... Lots of ways to win this thing!dicecca112 wrote:assuming it doesn't error out, which it does a lot.cadaveca wrote:So, if i just commit my 2 x1900's to the team, i should be getting 220ppdx2 for each card, and then some, as my gpu finishes WU's in 10hrs![]()

Try WinCLK too, to change speeds. less screwing around, IMHO. Only works w/ 6.5 and 6.10 properly i have found.
UID is cadaveca, BTW. I doubt I'll join in...jsut wanted people to get an idea as to what may happen. Those with x1900's already will win the race. PEROID. not a fair contest, IMHO, and I already got decent hardware. I think someone other than me deserves that stuff.
